Can anyone help out with why A is the correct answer for Q15?

(A) CANNOT be true. For R to run right before S, R must be in slot 2, since S can’t go in slots 2 or 4:

_RS_

Now, since R is second, U must be out:

_RS_ (U out)

Which means Q and T must be in... but wait! If Q is in, Q is in a block with T! And there’s no room for a block since only slots 1 and 4 are available.

(B) could be true: SQTU
(C) could be true: STUR
(D) could be true: UQTR
(E) could be true: SUTR

Is plug-n-chug the best strategy for this, or is there a better one?

If you're following the protocol many of us do,
1. Orientation
2. All the "If" questions
3. Everything else

then you have a lot of previous work at your disposal by the time you get to Q15.

Here's what I had after doing 14, 16, 17
Q14:
R ( QT, U ) | S
S R Q T | U

Q16
U T S R | Q
U Q T R | S

Q17
S R Q T | U
S Q T U | R
Q T S U | R

A) Have we seen RS? Nope, keep this.
B) Have we seen SQ? Yup, in Q17
C) Have we seen ST? Nope, keep this.
D) Have we seen TR? Yup, in Q16
E) Have we seen UT? Yup, in Q16

So you'd only need to do plug and chug with (A) and (C).
