Q13

I first chose C under time pressure but realized it was actually bolstering passage B instead of weakening it. But I am still having a hard time seeing why A is correct...

(B) is irrelevant.

(C) bolsters Passage B! But weirdly tempting for that reason.

(D) does not bolster Passage A.

(E) is at least irrelevant, and if anything, may bolster Passage B.

This question is best answered through process of elimination. (A) is the only one that both bolsters Passage A and is inconsistent with Passage B, "casting doubt" on its claims in a general way. If localized population displacement--which we've said in question 11 is something both passage acknowledge--is a precursor to widespread endangerment, then purple loosestrife certainly seems to be more dangerous than Passage B claims.

I have some doubts on (A). Localized population reduction is only mentioned in passage A, but not mentioned in passage B. According to passage B, the impact of PL is "the tyrannical influence of a life-destroying invasive weed". I don't think population reduction is the same thing as tyrannical influence. So in my opinion (A) doesn't weaken the argument in passage B. Tell me why I'm wrong, anyone. :(
