The main purpose of the passage is to act as response to the (undue) criticism that Tutuola has received. The criticism being: Tutuola takes too much liberty with works that aren't original and he uses local tales that are already out there (lines 8-11), so with that in mind, I look at the answer choices.
A - Contradictory; it seems the critics don't take into account the African oral tradition at all and focus solely on the criteria of a novel to view Tutuola's work through.
B - Unsuppoerd; if anything, it seems Tutuloa's use of language might have been praised from lines 3-8.
C - Unsupported; The critics don't mention the art of traditional storytelling at all, their only lens is the criteria for novel and the whole point of the passage is that the author is trying to show another way Tutuola's work can be judge through. So, the critics aren't perceiving the fusion at all it seems so them claiming that its detrimental is far out.
D - This seems really close to what I had in mind before I looked at the answer choices so keep it
E - Unsupported; we don't know how Tutuola characterizes his own work
All we're left with is D, so circle it and on to the next one
