Necessary assumptions in Inference Q

by wj097 Sat Apr 20, 2013 5:14 am

Hi, 2 questions
1) can a necessary assumption be an answer to a "must be true" question?
2) if so, how often does it come up?

Thx!!

Hey Wj,

So this is a very weird question, because it's a little bit illogical.

A "must be true" question is called an Inference Question. Inference questions, by definition, don't have conclusions. They just have a bunch of facts.

An assumption can only exist in the gap between a conclusion and a premise. So if there's no conclusion, there can't be an assumption.

If you think you saw it somewhere, the odds are good it wasn't really an inference question. But feel free to notate an individual question here in the forums that if you think it breaks this rule, and we can take a look at it!
