Logic Challenge #3 - Line Dancers Question 2

by mherrer1 Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:57 pm

I got tripped up by question 2 because my notation wasn't very clear. What is the best way to represent the blocks involved in the cloud? Here is what I have but I wonder if there is a clearer way.

TM, OS, P R N
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Here are the things I want to notate in this diagram. 1) TM are a block [so there is a square around them] and they can go anywhere as long as P comes after M, 2) OS is a block [square around them] and can go anywhere, either at the beginning, middle or end, P can go anywhere as long as it is after M.

Notating the constraints within the "cloud of uncertainty" is something I keep having trouble with so clarification is helpful.
Thanks

You seem to understand this well.

I did exactly what you did. I have 2 blocks, MT and OS.

We know that P has to come somewhere after the MT block, so mine looked like this:

MT - P

OS

_ _ _ _ _ R N
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Now we just have to place the blocks. Since this is a must be true question, it is not surprising that the correct answer is not about the placement of the blocks. As we can see, there isn't much that must be true about that. What must be true however is the ordering aspect of the variables.
