LG: Orientation:Tree Games:String Technique Question

by lmbulls Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:42 pm

Can someone elaborate or clarify how to apply the String Technique if the letters/elements do not have to be ordered consecutively; [I am referring to explanation provided on page 33 of LG games strategy guide] for example in the tree (which is correct) the order shows: P-O-M-V; we can eliminate answer choices that do NOT contain the P-O-M-V string;

MY QUESTION: If the letters do not have to be consecutively in that order, how come the following orders can be eliminated:
M-P-O-V, or O-P-M-V???

By "doesn't have to be consecutively in that order" mean that it can be reversed (V-M-O-P???) as long as the individual letters/elements are not re-arranged????

I think you're confusing "consecutively" with a different word. It means that they don't need to be NEXT to each other. But, they do need to be in that general order (and reversing is not OK).

For example, if Tom is older than Jacky who is older than Lisa, this order is acceptable:

Tom - Bob - Jacky - Dan - Lisa.

It's fine if they're not consecutive (next to each other), but the relative relationship needs to be preserved.

Tell me if that clears it up.
