LG Guide, Page 203 (Open Board solutions)

by scottflanary Fri Aug 12, 2011 2:35 pm

Hello,

I am working through the Open Board solutions on page 203 of the LG guide, and I do not understand part of question one.

Why do we mark two slots closed for T? I see the first slot is closed because P has more features than anyone else (and S has two, so P has all three and no one else does), but I don't see an inference about T's second closed slot.

Thanks for your help!

Good job on the inference that P has all 3 and no one else does since P has the most.

However, do realize that P and T have exactly one feature in common. Could T possibly have two slots or three slots? No!

It must have one! T has to have one of F, H, M. And once that is determined, by necessity, it will be sharing one feature in common with P, which has all features!

I started typing back to say I still misunderstood, but then the light bulb came on! If they only have ONE feature in common--and P has all three--that explains the one slot availability. :)

Thanks!
