Is this open setup setup, understanding gap..

The diagram is attached below.

From the rules I know that the (H,G) pair is assigned to three days.

Does the setup mean all of the letters don't have to be assigned at least once?

And even if the above doesn't happen, then what stops N from showing up twice?

From the given setup, I cannot infer whether all of GHIN must be used. It is quite common obviously that all variables must be used. I will always state, next to the variables, whether all must be used or not.

Nevertheless, if it is the case that 3 H's are assigned, it is true that we will have 3 HG vertical blocks. This is a block 2 of variables, and each of the 4 days have a max amount of 2 spots left. This will automatically preclude having 2 N's. I am assuming that this game precludes the possibility of a variable repeating on a day. If it is the case that a variable cannot repeat in a day, which I believe would be the case, then it is impossible to have 2 Ns.

Three of the days will be booked, no matter how you distribute the 3 HG blocks. Only 1 day will be left in which to place the N.
