Improving as much as possible in LG for the last two weeks

by JakeA559 Thu Nov 01, 2018 9:36 am

Hi,

About two weeks left until test date, and I know that LG is the easiest section to have improvements on in short time. Here's where I am

Score fluctatuates between 13-17 with three games completed/ attempted. I've noticed that I have some trouble/ takes a while to making inferences up front, and juggling possibilities in my head. Any tips on how I should practice or improve to make it more consistently 17?

What is the best way to review a game? How many times should I redo it?

What ive been doing so far is if I find a game gives me trouble, I'll redo the game untimed, try and see where I missed inferences and then watch the video explanation. Then repeat the game right after the explanation. then I put it away for about 10 days then repeat the game and if I can get all right under the time allotted (which i check online) then I'm done with it, otherwise I'll repeat that process above.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I plan to do for the next two weeks for LG:

Spend 4-5 full days:
Each day I will redo 4-5 games I have done before, and do 2-3 new games. I will lap how long it takes me, compare it to the time it says online and if I make a mistake or I am over the time, I will redo the game without time in mind, and then watch the video. I'll then redo the game maybe the next day.

I also hope to squeeze in maybe 2-3 timed sections

Please let me know if I have been doing anything wrong, or if i should be doing anything different in these last few days

Cheers

I'm not sure how much we can improve at anything in LSAT in two weeks, so I wouldn't recommend changing your approach too much right now.

Since you're never really getting to a fourth game, you don't have to worry about practicing super weird games. On the real test, just save the weirdest one for last.

It sounds to me like you're getting to caught up caring about inferences. Experiment a little with not looking for any inferences. Just go to the questions and start grabbing points!

Write your roster, write your diagram, write your rules.
Link any rules that can be linked.
Take a sec to think about whether you have a floater / whether you have a chunk / whether you have a crucial either-or

Then get outta there.

Most normal ordering games can be set up in 1 minute or less, so do some timing drills in which you shoot for exactly that.

When you're doing an actual question and you don't know what to do or think next,
WRITE A LEGAL SCENARIO. Or write 2 ... or 3. Keep writing scenarios!

I'm not better at Games than my students are because I have clever thoughts. I just do brute force quickly and have plenty of time to spare at the end of most Games sections.

I also do IF questions (after the Orientation) before I do any other questions. That way I have as much previous work as possible for getting easy eliminations on the other questions.

You should try to get faster/better at normal games, since you're bound to see a couple of those. If you bury your head in any exotic game types, you might develop proficiency at something you don't get to use.

Here's a couple pre-fabbed lists you can go off of:

Thanks for the reply Patrick!

So should I abandon redoing the games I have done before? And just work on the practice set ups and do a few of the games you have listed here? Should I also avoid skipping out on timed LG sections for the remaining week and abit?

Let me know
Cheers!
