General Test Center/Timing Questions

by mikeyjacobs Thu Oct 01, 2009 1:26 pm

Noah,

Thanks for your responses, they are very helpful.

Can you comment on the test center experience, How do you keep time when you are taking the test, are you allowed to bring in a timer etc...

If this is covered in the online course, please excuse me, I have yet to begin it, but I want to start cementing the best practices in and the real testing environment.

Thanks for your replies!!

No problem, You are allowed to bring in a watch to the testing center, but it needs to be old-school (analog, not digital). There's also a clock on the wall in the front of the room. One useful trick is to re-set your watch to 12:00 at the beginning of each section, that way you don't have to do any math to figure out how much time is left.

The proctor is supposed to give you a five-minute warning, but many have forgotten to do so, so do not rely on that.

The course goes over ideal timing benchmarks, but in short:

Strong timing:
LG and RC: 7, 8, 9, 10 (one game/passage in 7 minutes, one in 8 and so on)
LG: first 15 problems in 20 minutes, last 10 in 15 minutes.

Excellent timing:
LG and RC: 6, 7, 8, 9 (one game/passage in 7 minutes, one in 8 and so on)
LG: first 15 problems in 15 minutes, last 10 in 20 minutes.

Good luck as your course starts.
