Even if / Even though

by wj097 Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:19 am

Hello,

I have come across an answer choice that says "A, even if B"..and was wondering (1) whether we can consider this as a conditional statement (i.e., A, even if B = A, if B), and (2) what would be the negated form.

In case of "Even though", while I don't think it is a conditional trigger word please correct me if I am wrong. More importantly, whenever I read through an answer choice, I tend to put less emphasize on the part of the sentence with "even though", as it doesn't seem to impact the essence of the sentence, do you advise otherwise. (e.g., B looks after its own welfare, even though B values democracy...)

Thx

Interesting. Never considered that before.

In my opionion, A even if B translates to If A, then B or not B.

For example, I will ride my bike even if it rains. This means that I dont care if it rains or not -- I will ride my bike!! This does not mean if it rains or not guarantees that I will ride my bike. What it means is that if I do ride my bike, that is sufficient to know that it rained or didnt rain. Ha!! Quite a useless exercise...

Also, I dont believe 'even though' is a conditional trigger.

Please indicate the PT #, LR/ RC/ LG, question #s where you came across 'even if' usage -- Thanks!!
