PT59, S1, G4 - Six Annual Meetings

by unclefester2013 Mon Feb 01, 2010 3:07 pm

This game seems like it should be easy, but is riddled with apparently endless possibilities. I've stared at this thing and I can't seem to come up with any major deductions that crack it wide open. Suggestions?

PT 59, S1, G4 diagram + Q20

I've put up a diagram and also an example of solving question 20 with such diagram. Let me know if y'all have any other questions about this particular game!

Using the V/W block and V/L _ _ L/V constrains, I managed to daw all ten frames as follows. These frames might help solve #18 and #20 quickly.

Nice work on your frames! Just curious... Were you able to put those together quickly?

My general rule of thumb is that when I need more than four rows to establish frames, I tend to shy away from using them. That way, I know when I start framing, that I won't still by running hypotheticals 4 minutes from when I started.

But I like your work nonetheless!

It took me a while to find all the frames. I agree with you in that if allowed frames are more than 4, it is not a good idea to use frames to find anwers quickly.

This sort of game is designed to make you think you should try to come up with frames! However I think the best approach is by far just staying calm and managing the uncertainty as you go into the questions.

IMHO the best way to approach this game is to just grasp the rules and tackle the questions.

Usually I would at least infer a couple of MBTs and MBFs before attacking the questions but in this case the order of attacking the questions paid off a lot.

My order was,
17, 18 (cross out D with 17 and skip), 19 (assuming you try in order of a,b,c,d <--answer), back to 18 (cross out a&b with 19d), 20 (D out with 17, A,B,C out with 19b), 21(ah ha! The question says "If M is used 1st but CNBT, meaning M can be first. Go back to 18 cross out C), 22, 23

I had some trouble with this game while doing it on a timed PT, so I thought I'd try framing in my review. I think one of the key pieces I noticed was the V/W - L/N relationship in three of the frames. I was also able to answer all of the questions using these frames, so I hope these are helpful for anyone else who has struggled with this game.

Yeah, as people are pointing out, frames are great when reviewing on this question, but making them in real time? Probably iffy, given the time investment required.

Is there any way to find out about [W/N _ _ N/W] inference during diagramming? any suggestions? While reviewing this game, I got curious if there were any way to find that inference during the diagramming stage.

Thanks!
