PT37, S3, G3 - Linguistic Monographs

by gregory.mortenson Wed Nov 25, 2009 12:41 pm

I found this game to be very time-consuming due to the unusual setup. It took me awhile to figure out a good way to diagram the game and to unlock the key inferences -- I ultimately went with frames. Can someone please post their setup so I can see if there was a more efficient way to tackle this game? Thanks!

Re: PT37, S3, G3 -- A total of six books occupies three shelves

This game is tough and probably one of the most time consuming of the set from this particular LSAT. However, your gut to set up frames was entirely accurate. There is more than one set of frames that works well, so if yours doesn't match what I ran out in the attached pdf, don't worry, but try and see that you can do this in several ways.

Once you have the frames, which should take you about 3-5 minutes, the questions are still a little slow because of the way in which the books are referred to as you move from answer choice to answer choice. But the frames do help.

How did you get the F V or F W inferences? I understand that F can only go on shelves 2 or 3, but I do not see why V cannot go alone. I am sure it is an obvious inference that I am missing, but I still am getting
H/F

F/H. W

V. P/S. P/S

as one of my frames when I have V alone.

Yikes!

Those frames provided do not make it impossible for V not to be alone. V can be alone as you just showed us.

Essentially, this game boils down to framing for sure.

We know that F has to go with at least one of V/W. It could be both.

So you can have:
__________________________________________

_
FW
_ _ _

__________________________________________

_
FV
_ _ _

__________________________________________

_
_ _
FWV

__________________________________________

_
_ _
_ FW

__________________________________________

_
_ _
_ FV

Of course we find out that FW cannot be the second shelf rather quickly because V P S will bring issues with that alignment.

So really, I had four frames to build off of from the placement of F with W/V or both.
