Here's a misplaced post:
shariferguson Wrote:I need help with this game. I figured out the answer to all of the questions except the last one number 24. With that said now I'm not sure if I am thinking correctly about this game. Can someone show me how they wrote out the rules. And the conditional statements regarding if there is at least one hospital then there is a jail. But does this mean there can be a hospital in a city with no jail. And it also says no more than one institution in more than one of the cities. So therefore that means you can't have say two hospitals in one city correct. However question 24 changes that rule correct. I hope someone can get back to me as soon as possible. It really is making my head go nuts. Thanks.

Hi --

I've attached a diagram w/2 parts -- just the constraints notated, and then the inferences -- I'll leave it to you to figure out how I got the inferences -- not too challenging, I think. There may be others I've missed -- if so, please let me know.

In terms of #24, if one city contains 2 H and 1 U, that city must be either 2 or 3 (which contain the 2 U's). Furthermore, we know already that City 6 has a hospital.

Therefore, we can quickly eliminate (D) and (E), which have 6, and (C) which includes both 2 and 3.

Down to (A) and (B) the issue is a bit more subtle --

If no H's are in 1,4, or 5, that would mean the rest of the H's are in 2, 3 and 6. Remember that J has to go somewhere that has an H. If H's are only in 2,3, and 6, there is no place for the 2nd J to go.

Hope that helps. This is a very unusual game. Thanks for bringing it up!

It simply means that, for example J, cannot be in both cities 1 and 2 - that once you place an institution, it cannot straddle 2 different cities. it is either in city 1 or city 2, but not both.

Make sense?
