Sept. 2006; PT50, S3, G2 The members of a five-person

Could you please confirm the best setup for this game? I think it was reviewed in class and I also got the questions correct. However, I set the game up like an open assignment game and the question is classified as a binary grouping problem.

Hey,

I would use the Logic Chain for this one...and make sure to draw lines in between each group if people (students, parents, and teachers), since it's a Closed Binary Grouping Game.

Yeah, I agree with Luke. It's a binary grouping game. Try it with the chain and see how it goes. Check your diagram against this one. If you have any questions at that point, we can answer them here or in the study hall. Good luck!

Hello,

I used the chain for this problem. Could you please explain why e.) X is the correct answer for #10?

For #11, I was also able to eliminate letters A, C, and D
A's eliminated because If M -> -Z -> -F (answer choice includes F)
I eliminated D and C because both include K and we must have exactly one student (M is already a student).

How do I eliminate G and H (letter B) to arrive to the correct answer U and X (letter E) as the pair that must be selected along with M.

Hi Lee,

For #10, think about what sort of people have to be in if the rule is that only one parent is selected: S, P, T, T, T (and out is S, S, P, P, T). It'd actually be worthwhile to write this out when solving the question.

My attention is drawn to the fact that we need 3 teachers. What do you notice about teachers? I suggest you see if you can figure this out before reading on . . .


Since X and W can't both be in, we'll need Z and X to fulfill the 3 parent slots, so (E) is correct.


For #11, the correct answer is (B). :)

If you know that M is selected, you can figure out everything except whether it's U in and W out or vice versa. The t-diagram (though not in T-form because of forum formatting) is:

Hey Will -- I'll try to do my best Dan impression --

The key is that we are told only one student can be selected.

Since both K and L are students, they can't both be selected.

I think there is a typo here. I think #10 should read,"Since U and W can't both be in". Just is case anyone else was confused like I was.
