Chapter 2 p. 34 Ordering Question

by kiransfatima Thu May 02, 2013 7:24 pm

The following is the ordering question: "O finishes at least two spots ahead of or behind M. Exactly one runner finishes between L and O."

My understanding was that "at least two spots" meant O_+M (or M_+O), but the solution is O_ _+M.

I just don't see how this is consistent with what we learned on p. 30 where, in a similar example of "L finishes at least two spots ahead of P," the solution was L_+P.

Thanks in advance.

Oooh, good catch.

You're totally right. The graphic on p. 34 is messed up. They're symbolizing "at least two spots in between", not "at least two spots ahead".

Thanks, I'll let someone know for the sake of the next edition.

Re: Chapter 2 p. 34 #5 Ordering Question

by divya.murthy.artist Sun Oct 20, 2013 2:31 am

Hi,
I have an issue with #5 on page 34.
I find the given answer very confusing and inconsistent with notations on page 30.

This is what I concluded based on the rules listed on page 30:

[O_+M] or [M_+O] and for "Exactly one runner finishes between L and O" --- [L_O] or [O_L]

Is my answer correct? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Divya,

Did you read this thread? This issue has been addressed for future editions (i.e. it's in our errata). Apologies!
