3 LGs advisable?

by chike_eze Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:40 pm

I'm still having issues with LG. I end up guessing on 3-5 questions, and missing questions from easy games.

I've done a few PTs with 3 LG sections to try to improve in LG. And was wondering if this is a good strategy.

Currently, I believe that the I'm forced to guess on multiple questions (usually on the 4th game) because I spend way too much time on easy games. e.g., 9+ minutes instead of 8 or 7.

2-and-a-half weeks to go -- do you advice I take more 3 LG PTs prior to D-day??

Hey Chike,

I don't actually think that taking 3 LG sections during one practice test will lead to an improvement in your time outside from the fact that you'd have done 12 LG games, which does provide you some experience with additional games.

Taking practice tests typically doesn't improve your score, but rather measures it. You'd be more like to improve your timing by finding other ways of spending time with LG - such as organizing a stack of games into piles according to game type or asking yourself to find at least 2 structures within a game that you can find repeated in other games.

Look for patterns across games and you will spend less time thinking about what to do next and more time simply doing it!

I have studied the LG book, and reviewed it...but when taking the practice tests, I keep staring a the page like its chinese! I really struggle to fit what I'm reading into the game types I've learned from my LG book. When you guys said you have a new book out, I went to B&N, sat in the middle of the bookstore on the floor and I realized there are entire sections that were not in the current kindle copy. Now I ordered the new book you guys put out...but I don't know how much help it will be, as I realize that 70% of the book is the same....

I'm frankly stressed out - I have 30 days to go, and I am not doing well with the LG...I don't finish more than two and a half games...but if I redo the games on my own, and take my time, I generally figure it out.

How would you advise me to study in this remaining time? should I re-do the whole book, in addition to taking the tests? should I just focus on the various tests in order to become more flexible?

Your advice is appreciated.

Stop thinking only in strict game types. "Sequence only, pure sequencing, binary only etc". Most recent games are combinations of game types. Dont get me wrong, every now and then u'll get a game that fits in very nicely with a type.

However, I've noticed that recent games "PT60 and up" contain more combo games than, for example, PT 40s. For instance, I've barely used the famous mlsat binary game tool in PT60+ games. Maybe I could have used it on some games and then wrote some conditionals on the side, but that didn't really seem very efficient at the time.

I've tried being a bit more flexible, and that seems to be helping. Still not where I need to be with games, but I think I am less frustrated/anxious when I dont see a simple sequencing or grouping game in G1 or G2!!

Note-- by combo I mean, for example, grouping+linear, assignment+binary, linear+binary etc...
