More babies are born in September than in any other month, and the majority of babies born each month are girls.

We can infer that...

Choice #1:
The number of girls born in September is greater than the number of girls born in August.

Choice #2:
The number of girls born in September is greater than the number of boys born in October.

Please explain why choice #2 is correct. The stimulus doesn't even talk about October...

Hey Ptraye,

Just try it out with numbers!

If more babies are born in September, then we could say that's 11 babies. That means, at most, 10 babies are born every other month. If the majority of babies born each month are girls, then that means, at the very least, 6 girls are born in September (because it has to be more than half of 11). In October, we already worked out that 10 babies are born. If the majority are girls, that has to be at least 6, which would mean 4 boys. So we have fewer boys.

That's if we look at numbers. You can also try to logic it out. More than half (girls babies) of a larger number (September babies) must be larger than less than half (boy babies) of a smaller number (October babies).
