statement:
All modern songwriters who write with refrain structures have been influenced by Bob Dylan, and Jeremy is a modern songwriter who writes with refrain structures.

possible inferences:
1. Bob Dylan has influenced the refrain structures that Jeremy uses.
2. Bob Dylan has been an influence for at least some songwriters.

both answers are correct extensions of the statement. since jeremy is a modern song writer who uses refrain structures, he falls into the influenced group. because there is an influenced group (jeremy as one case-in-point) at least some have been influenced by bob.

not sure what they're looking for...

thanks for the help.

Tricky one. Let me see if I can help you see it. If we know that all modern songwriters who write with refrain structures have been influenced by Bob Dylan and we know that Jeremy is a modern songwriter, what would you say you know? You'd say: (highlight to reveal after you think about it) that Bob Dylan influenced Jeremy.

However, could you say that (highlight) Bob Dylan has influenced the refrain structures that Jeremy uses?

That's too specific.
