Basically, the idea is expressed with this example.
A unless B.
The necessary condition is B. The sufficient condition is not A.
So if it is rewritten as: "If not A, then B". We can say ~A --> B or the contrapositive of ~B --> A which is exactly the same logic that this applied here.
