What to do after practice exam

by aladelokunoladimeji Tue Sep 29, 2015 1:55 am

Thank you very much Manhattan. I just finished my practice exam, that you enabled me with. I am glad that you also provided answers and explanations to all the questions.
I have been preparing for my exam with Manhattan study guides: very incisive and much less abstruse than other guides. Nevertheless i came across some new things on the explanation page of my free practice exam, for example:
Given two related Inequalities problem: To solve them (in a case whereby addition is necessary, I must be sure that the inequality signs are in the same direction)? Never seen that before. Saw something different a study guide by another exam prep class. I will be glad if i could get an explanation for this.

I will also like to know if my practice scores are a true reflection of my performance today? I realized my own estimation of my Verbal scores was less than what Manhattan estimated for me?

I had 155 in Verbal and 154 in Quant. I have less than two weeks to my exam. Please what can I do to improve and break into the 99th percentile?
Thank you

Hey Olad,

First off, to the math issue:

Inequalities can be added together if the symbols are facing in the right direction. For example, if you have two inequalities:

x + y + 1 > x + y + z
2x + y + z > y - z - x

You can sum them:

3x + 2y + z + 1 > y

That's all. On certain questions, it's helpful to do this (not particularly helpful in the equations I just made up!).

To your second question, yes, the practice tests should give a fairly accurate portrait of how you'll score on test day, though of course some people do better and some people do worse.

To your third question, there is no simple answer to this. A tutor would need to look at your practice tests, judge your strengths and weaknesses, figure out how much time you had to devote to your studies, and lay out a plan. That said, we always tell people you can't expect any sort of huge improvement in only a couple of weeks, so I'd say you should focus more on your strengths than your weaknesses at this point. Two weeks is not enough time to suddenly improve wildly at reading comprehension, for example.

Good luck!
