what is the clue for blank 1 and 2??

by hasibul.alam Mon Feb 08, 2016 9:54 am

According to Lackmuller’s latest screed, published under the title, Why We Can’t Win at Their Game, special interest groups not nominally tied to ecological concerns have become so (i) ___________ the process of environmental policymaking that those groups who actually aim to ensure that corporate profit does not trump environmental health have been effectively (ii) __________. Lackmuller’s contention, however, is (iii) __________ in that it fails to account for the signal achievements environmental groups have effected over the last 20 years—often to the chagrin of big business.

Blank (i)
marginalized in
indebted to
influential in
Blank (ii)
vindicated
squelched
lionized
Blank (iii)
somewhat tentative
rarely myopic
highly misleading

in Influential , squelched , Highly Misleading , i made correct only third one
i can not find any effective clue for blank 1 and 2

Hey Hasibul,

Yeah, this is definitely a tough one. We have to work out Lackmuller's philosophical location first. The title of his piece helps. He's complaining about special interest groups in environmentalism, so we know he's on the side of environmentalists. This will help us with the second blank. "Those groups who actually aim to ensure corporate profit does not trump environmental health have been..." Well, if Lackmuller is an environmentalist and he's angry (we know he's angry because of the word "Screed"), he definitely thinks these groups are NOT getting the attention/success they need. This leads us to "squelched." Now that we know that, we know the first blank. These special interest groups are bad, so Lackmuller would NOT want them involved in policymaking. This means they must be "influential" in the present moment.

Tough one. Hope that helps though!
