probability

by anik1989 Thu Aug 28, 2014 11:18 am

A certain club has 10 members, including Harry. One of the 10 members is
to be chosen at random to be the president, one of the remaining 9
members is to be chosen at random to be the secretary, and one of the
remaining 8 members is to be chosen at random to be the treasurer. What is
the probability that Harry will be either the member chose to be the
secretary or the member chosen to be the treasurer??

Hey Anik,

Again, in the future, it'd be great if you could provide answer choices, because a lot of work that one does on this test is related to the actual answer choices, which often allow for shortcuts and ballparking. The full question includes the answer choices.

Also, it's great if you post how far you got on a question, or where you went wrong, as opposed to just posting questions without any accompanying text.

In this case, the guy has a 1/10 chance of being chosen for either position, so the answer is 2/10 = 1/5.
