Exponents on GRE Calculator

by mike.fleischmann Mon Aug 10, 2015 2:56 pm

Greetings -

I am working through the percents chapter of guide 2 ("Fractions, Decimals, and Percents") and I have a question about Check Your Skills question #13 (a compounding-interest question).

The compounding interest formula requires me to calculate the following to find the answer:

(12,000)(1.035)^12

Is there a simple way to calculate 1.035^12 on the GRE calculator? Or do I just have to multiply 1.035 by 1.035 in the calculator until I get to the 12th power?

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you just have to do it over and over again. But remember, check your skills questions aren't really GRE questions. They're more just for educative purposes. In other words, I doubt you'd be asked to do something like that on the actual test.
