How Can I take my verbal score from a 149 to 160?

by hasibul212003 Sun Apr 12, 2015 1:08 pm

Hello I sat for my GRE last year in November and scored a dismal 308(159-Math,149-Verbal). I am quite ok with my Math score but would like to take my verbal score from 149 to something like 160 which is why I plan to sit for GRE again in 5-6 months time. I have been working on my weaknesses and strengths in the verbal section and discovered that lack of vocabulary is not my problem-the main challenge for me is to comprehend the overall meaning of text completion and sentence equivalence questions and when it comes to reading comprehension getting the main summary of the passage. What can I do to improve on my weaknesses and eventually do better in verbal.
Thanks.

Hey Hasibul,

We tend to shy away from answering big general questions like this on the forums. We have a whole curriculum that lasts 9 weeks and that many books as well; half of all of that is dedicated to verbal. To improve on reading comprehension, you have to get better at reading. How much do you read in English? If not much, I recommend reading for at least an hour every day in a semi-difficult English text, looking up all difficult words and running any difficult sentences by a private English tutor. There is no easier or faster way to improve at something as large and complex as a language.

Good luck!
