Author talks about "follow your dreams" theory which is given to young people. Author suggests that this advice should be given with a caution that "worthy" goals must be perused. He backs his statement with a reason that many people have selfish goals and hence if they are not going after a worthy goal, it may not be a good way to pursue one's dreams. As we know, everything has two aspects; Good one and bad one. We can classify this topic also with having two sides. Before starting perusing a dream, it's very important that one should evaluate it morally and socially. Anything which is against the moral and social values is not worth doing. So, I agree with the author.
Man is a social animal. Everything he does impacts his surroundings and the people around him in some way. So, it can be said that one must have a sense of responsibility towards the society. Every dream which a man can conceive is in some way related to the society. Hence when a man thinks about going after his dream, he must think about it's social implications. For example, we can consider a case of a scientist. He dreams of inventing something and then goes after it. The day he achieves his goal, the result impacts the society. Either he invents something which facilitates the life of people or his invention may involve harmful impacts for society. Everyday things, like electricity, TV, radio have made man's life very convenient however, inventions like bombs have generated an atmosphere of terror in the society.
A dream starts from an individual's imagination which eventually impacts whole society. Today everybody is running after some small or big dream. Apart from social and technological aspects, a man's dream involves monetary benefits to him and his family as well. However, if the dream does not have a selfless purpose and primarily conceived for monetary rewards, it's not worth taking. Well known businessmen who started their business with a dream have one thing in common - earning money was not the primary agenda of their dream. Their primary aim was to do something which makes people's life easier. Be it technology, medical field, agriculture or anything else. They pursued a dream which was in line with the moral values and was intended to facilitate society. Money follows the right cause eventually.
Hence it can be elicited that a dream must be pursued with keeping moral and social implications in mind. A dream which involves a selfish purpose is not worth following.
