Number Properties Book End Hard Questions

by smfr.83 Tue Oct 06, 2015 9:08 pm

Strategy Book 4: Number Properties, Page 179, Question#9

If (X^2)/4 is an integer greater than 50, then what is the smallest possible vale for X^2?

The answer is given as 256.

But I did like this:

let X^2/4 = 51
>> X^2 = 204.

>> X = sqrt(204). In the question, it is not mentioned that X is an integer.

Please let me know if I am missing any point here?

Thank you

Hey Sm,

Our current edition (4th edition) of the book DOES say that x is a positive integer. Perhaps you have an old edition? This could have been an error in a previous edition.
