number of vocabulary words for non native speakers

by abedinbhuiyan Mon Nov 12, 2012 4:38 am

Dear concern,

I am a non native English speaker. I am in the middle of nowhere. Pls ans me questions:

1) The number vocabulary that I will need as a non native English speaker to crack GRE?
2) Time to memorize them?
3) Will the 1000 in your book are enough?

I will be glad to receive your help.

Hey abedinbhuiyan,

Unfortunately, there is no simple answer for this question.

1) There is no magic number of vocabulary words. The test can cull from literally 1000s and 1000s of words. Picking up our flashcards will certainly help, but there are certainly far more words that they could test. Many of them you already know, many you don't. If you need a GREAT verbal score, you would want to learn even more words. If you only need a DECENT verbal score, the 1000s may be enough. Your best bet is to memorize our words, then take a practice test and see how you do on vocabulary questions. If you're scoring well, then you vocab is solid. If you're not, then you need to learn more.

2) No answer to that. Everyone learns at a different rate.

3) I think I actually answered this in #1.

Good luck!
