Question:

A furniture factory sells both vinyl and leather sofas. The cost to produce a leather sofa is twice the cost to produce a vinyl sofa, but the factory is able to sell a leather sofa at three times the price of a vinyl sofa. If the factory earns a profit of $150 on a vinyl sofa and a profit of $800 on a leather sofa, what is the difference in sales price between the two types of sofa?

Correct Answer is $1,000. Can you please explain why correct answer of this question is $1,000 ??

Let's say the cost to produce a vinyl couch is x. That means the cost to produce a leather sofa is 2x.
Let's say the sale price of a vinyl couch is y. That means the sale price of a leather sofa is 3y.
Profit will just be sale price minus cost to produce, so:

Profit on vinyl sofa --> y - x = 150
Profit on leather sofa --> 3y - 2x = 800

Now you have two variables and two equations, so you can solve from there!
