Manhattan test SE Question

by karthiksms Thu Jun 13, 2013 5:09 am

Hi Tommy,
Sentence Equivalence question

The consultant could tell immediately that his company’s proposals to curb home foreclosures would be__________ by their nationwide client; new state regulations had made it more advantageous to flush out the housing market.
dismissed
inured
abhorred
considered
substantiated
rebuffed

Ans: dismissed and rebuffed.

Could you please explain what is meant by "flush out the housing market". I am still confused on why "dismissed" is the answer? What does "it" refer to in the sentence "new state regulations had made it more advantageous to flush out the housing market"

Hey Karthik,

It just means "to clear something out" in this usage. So they want to empty out all the houses, so they won't want to stop foreclosing. Make sense?
