Is a parallelogram a trapezoid?

by asishkm Sun Aug 24, 2014 9:29 am

Hi,

The Official Guide states that:

- A quadrilateral in which two opposite sides are parallel is called a trapezoid.

Does this mean that all parallelograms are trapezoids as well?

The NOAH book states that trapezoids have EXACTLY one pair of parallel sides (which I think is different from what the Official Guide states).

Am I correct in my interpretation?

Thanks.

There's actually disagreement about this in the math community, which means the GRE will never test it in a way where you would have to say one way or the other.
