GRE for psychology graduate school

by chopinetude24 Sun Aug 14, 2016 5:27 pm

I'm trying to get a rough idea of what GRE scores are standard for entry into psychology graduate school [research, not therapy track], how they compare to norms in general.

Do you have an idea of how helpful/useful is a really high quantitative score compared to one that is merely above average?

Any idea of where to go to research into these questions myself? Books that would have this information, etc.

Thanks

The first thing you want to do is figure out the type of psychology you are most interested in practicing or researching. Then find the best programs in that specialty. That is what we help our clients out with at Stratus. As I'm sure you are finding it can be quite a daunting experience the first time out.

Once you have some ideas of programs that interest you--then you must do MORE research. You can often reach out to the admissions dept. at the programs themselves for average GRE scores for their incoming class. For top programs, like Harvard, it's mid-160s. For another great school, U of Michigan average from 2014 was 159V, 155Q.

As for self-guided research give Peterson's books a try.

Good Luck!
