GRE about inequalities

by robinphilip01 Sat Nov 15, 2014 2:10 am

sir,
I have a question
in the I st book( algebra ) of manhattam,
page 103 question .5
asked B3A <0 AND A>0 which of the following must be negative
you ar telling that AB

Let me understand that if B is negative
but my doubt is that if also B is a fraction , say 0.05 then also the '
statement holds true
that is B3A WILL be < 0
if so is -B/A ( CHOICE (E) IS A CORRECT ANSWER ?

Hey Robin,

I don't totally understand your question. Please, in the future, write your posts in full sentences with correct grammar. Also, use the "^" symbol for powers.

All that siad, your example doesn't actually work. Try testing a value.

B can't be .5, because we know that A is positive.

.5^3 = .125, and .125 * A will be positive, not negative. This breaks the first given rule of the question! (B^3 * A < 0).

Hope that helps!
