Geometry Book Hard Practice Q.19

by domivantman Mon Nov 23, 2015 8:15 pm

Hello,
I'm copying this questions because I can't upload a photo.

In the xy-plane, line n is a line that passes through the origin.

Which of the following statements individually provide(s) sufficient additional info to determine wheter the slope of line n is greater than 1.

Indicate all such statements
a) Line n does not pass through any point (a,b) where a and b are positive and a>b
b) Line m is perpendicular to line n and has a slope of -1.
c) Line n passes thorough the point (c, d+1) where c and d are consecutive integers and c>d.

Why in the answer you consider choice b, if they tell you that slope of line n is greaten than 1, not greater or equal to 1.

Thanks

Hey Domivant,

You're misunderstanding the question. They're asking which of the answers allows you to FIGURE OUT if it's bigger than 1. If you know that the slope is equal to 1, you now know DEFINITIVELY the answer to the question, "Is the slope greater than 1?" The answer is definitively NO, so the piece of information is sufficient to answer.

Make sense?
