Hey,
My GRE is next week. I have read quite a few essays from the Internet, Manhattan Strategy Guide and other GRE guides as well. A lot of the examples in Issue essays are related to American politics. However, my knowledge of the same is limited. Is it fine to give examples related to social and political events from my country?

Absolutely. Just make sure you explain them very well. Your reader will be better acquainted with American history than the history of any other country, so you'll have to make sure to explain why your example is relevant.
