Doubt in FDP Word Problem

by xerocoool Mon Sep 01, 2014 3:12 pm

Hi Tommy,

Q) A container is 4/5 full. After 3 liters of its content are poured out, the container is 3/4 full. How many liters would need to be poured back into the container ? (Numeric Entry)

The total capacity is 60 liters.

How to interpret the problem statement "how many liters would need to be poured back into the container"

-> from 3/4 to 4/5 or
-> from 3/4 to the brim (the total capacity)

Is there an ambiguity in the statement ?

Thanks

Hey Xero,

Please don't post any more questions from this source on the forums, as they clearly are not written correctly, and stuff like this confuses folks who are studying. I recommend you stop studying from whatever source this came from.

(I can only assume they meant "How many liters would you need to fill the container back up?", but the way it's worded is terrible.)

4/5x - 3 = 3/4x

Multiply by 20:

16x - 60 = 15x

x = 60

Totally. There's plenty of good material out there on the web. No need to use stuff like this. : )
