definition of subset in gre in p.276

by smfr.83 Wed Oct 21, 2015 10:01 pm

In official guide, ETS only defines the term "subset"?. I'm wondering:

1. if there is any distinction between "proper subset" and "subset" in GRE.

2. If A={1,2,3} and B={1,2,3,3}, can I say that A is a subset of B and that B is also a subset of A?

3. if A={1,2,3} and B is a set not shown. Can B={1,2,3} also? In that case can I say that A is a subset of B and that B is also a subset of A? (a weird question though)?

I appreciate your reponse.

Hey Smfr,

I've never seen this language tested on the GRE.

1. Nope.
2. I have no idea.
3. I have no idea.

But I promise you, none of this will ever matter. If you see a question that actually hinges on the meaning of subset, I'd love to see it, but in 7-8 years of teaching this stuff, I've certainly never seen it.
