Data Interpretation - Deciphering vague diagram

I came across this question on a practice test - https://www.manhattanprep.com/gre/cat/C ... owheader=1

and was not able to figure out which lines represented the population in year 2000 and 2009. So I had to forgo 2 questions from the topic.

Any ideas on how to better read the diagram or are the lines not clear enough?
I'm also color blind, is that the reason?

Hey,
Im not sure how colorblindness works but there are no colors..if you can see different shades though, around 40-45 there is a line that extends out past the other one with no grey shading beside it..the key has one line with shading underneath and one line without. That should be the distinction between the lines and you're able to follow the path once you get the distinction from around that # area.

Indeed, P-gorsky has nailed it.

This isn't about colorblindness. It's a bit of a game. You have to track the line by finding the place that clearly shows you which line is the one that is shaded to the left, and which is the line that is NOT shaded to the left. If you can see well enough to read the text, you'll be able to see those lines.

Good luck!
