Hi Tommy,

Car X can come with any of these 5 additional features: sunroof, stereo, tinted windows, leather seats and cruise control.

Number of different combinations possible ?

Five additional features - Sunroof, Stereo, Tinted windows, leather seats & cruise control

Selection criteria - Either you have it or don't (yes or no) - 2 possibilities for each feature

a) Does the order matter ? - No but
b) Output of each stage different ? - Yes (all features are independent events, so FCP and not combination)

Using FCP,

2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 32

Noob always beats me to the punch! : )

He's absolutely right though. In this case:

1) How many slots? Five.

_ _ _ _ _

2) How many choices for each slot? Two each:

2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2

3) Does order matter? No. (Because these options just come equipped; there's no question of which ones come when.)

When order matters, all you have to do is multiply across, so 2^5 = 32.

Perfect!
