I'd really appreciate if someone takes the time to check my argument.
Suggestions and advices are welcome! :D
In any field—business, politics, education, government—those in power should be required to step down after five years.
Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position.
I support the statement that in any field those in power should step down after a period of five years. In order to expose and support my position, I am going to use a context based on democracy. Additionally, I will assume that 5 years is the legal duration of the empowered position.
When somebody is selected democratically by people or by a committee in representation of a community, either at an educational institution, corporation, city or country, is because that chosen person represents the interest and will of people, or at least, of the majority of people in a specific context. Once elected, people expect the leader to start carrying out policies and projects aiming to improve the standards of life, productivity, yield, depending on the scenario. being in power for 5 years is enough time to implement and develop ideas, projects and policies in order to satisfy community’s needs and show results. For instance, a major of a city is expected to increase the security, employment, mobility, economy and in general all the aspects the have an impact on the quality of life and the sustainability of the city. Bearing in mind that I have based my argument on a democratic scenario, although the empowered person might meet everybody’s expectations it is required to step down after this time. This is has to be done in order to prevent any issue on interests or influence conflict, and give opportunity to other people. The only way for someone to stay in power for more than a period of five years, assuming that is the legal duration of the position, is if the re-election is legally implemented.
Otherwise, if any of the items mentioned above, are not improved but rather lowered and the situation get worse, in a time frame of 5 years, it is necessary that one in power to step aside to give opportunity to someone else who could potentially fix the situation.
In either scenario, and no matter the field, 5 years is a period of time long enough to give an empowered person the opportunity to show either positive or negative results , and at the same time, it is a just time to give fresh ideas an opportunity to be in power.
