Confusing question in manhattaan book#5

by samidhtalsania Thu Jun 27, 2013 4:53 am

here's the question

susan is writing a novel that will be 950 pages long when finished . she can write 10 pages per day on weekdays and 20 pages per day on weekends.

Quantity A) the least number of consecutive days it will take susan to finish her novel.
Quantity B) 75

I thought the answer is D (the relationship cannot be determined from the info given) because the answer will be 73 if she starts on saturday,74 if she starts on sunday and 75 if she starts on monday .

However, the answer given is B(Quantity B is greater) and the reason is Susan chooses her day appropriately as take advantage of as many weekends as possible.

Is that a valid assumption to make ?

Hey Samid,

Easy mistake here. Look at column (A) again. It says "The least number of consecutive days..." You're right that she could spend 73, 74, or 75 days working on the book, but the least would be 73.

Hope that helps!
