common vocab words vs basic vs advanced

by Kovtunenko7 Wed Oct 21, 2015 3:34 pm

Hello I have a question . I am taking my GRE in a few weeks . So I finished all your 8 guides and I know all the words that are in the syllabus 8 weeks of 49 words . Do you think it's enough to do well on the vocabulary I'm in a dilemma because now I don't know if I should focus on the rest of the words in the essential and advanced words that were not in the syllabus or I also found a list of common vocabulary in the back of guide 7. Please tell me which are most important and also I was curious how you picked the words in the syllabus why those 49 words each week are they significant somehow (I hope so because I focused on them )

Hey Kov,

They are words that we have seen come up in many GRE questions, but that's all. The questions the writers can pull from are effectively limitless, so you're just learning as many as you can. Every student will see words they don't know. You just have to hope that it's never more than 1 per question (because if it's only 1 per question, you can still get the right answer!). So you just learn as many as you can. Basically, if you've got time to keep learning more words, it'll keep helping you. But if your time is limited, and you still need work in other areas of the test, prioritize that work.

Good luck!
