question from practice test
x is the number on the number line between 2 and 12 that is twice as far from 2 as from 12.

Hey Deepesh,

The distance between 2 and 12 is 10. We know that the point on the line is twice as far from 2 as from 12. That means the two distances are in a ratio of:

1 to 2

If you have a ratio of 1:2, and it needs to add up to ten, you can logic it out to:

3 and a third: 6 and two thirds

So the point in question will be 2 + 6 2/3 = 8 and 2/3.

The answer is A.
