can you square negative numbers?

by rachelserkez1 Tue Nov 10, 2015 8:30 pm

why does x^2 < x mean that 0<x<1?
I know it means that x has to be a decimal but why can't it be a negative decimal?
I thought the Code was saying that x must be less than 1 and greater than -1. As in -1<x<1.
Does this mean that negative numbers can't be squared?

Hey Rachel,

A negative number becomes positive when squared, in which case x < x^2, so it doesn't fit the initial constraint.
