Algebra Practice Question, Hard 15 pp 159 updated for New GR

by marvinmallari Sat Jul 23, 2011 11:32 am

Hello,

I have a question about problem 15.

I believe the answer and explanation does not match the questions equation

In the equation I have (x^2) + (x + 1) + 16 + 22 + 17 + x + 21 = 100

Then it should equal x^2 + 2x + 77 = 100, the answer key has it as x^2 + 2x + 76 = 100.

1 + 16 + 22 + 17 + 21 = 77

The answer should be B not C since x < 4.

Thanks for such a good resource overall! I feel like I am in junior high math class again. : )

Hey Marvin,

If your question is from our book, you're always welcome to post the whole thing. Show me your simplification from the first step, if you would. Obviously, in the equation as you wrote it, you're absolutely right, and that would be a mistake on our part. But there could have been a mistake made in the first part of your simplification. Could you show me that step?

Thanks!
