5lb book of probs. chapter 11 Fractions pg 454 Q 14.

by Nadirshah Mon Sep 23, 2013 4:05 pm

Ok guys,
If the 2 pies are split into 16 equal parts then that means each part is split into 8 equal parts. Then each of the parts are further split into 3 slices which are shared equally between 3 people. So that means 1/3 of 1/8 is split into 3 people. Which is 1/24. and which is higlighted as the answer.
What I dont get is that the question says that EACH part is split equally among 3 people not just 1. If each person gets 1/24 from one part. shouldnt he/she get 1/24 * 8 from the whole pie?

Hey Nadir,

You're totally right. The question is miswritten. It makes a better question as it is though! The tricky answer would just be 1/3, because each person is getting 1/3rd of all the little pieces (those would just be tricks!). Good catch!

Hey T
nerves got the best of me I guess. english went ok got a 160. But in math i ended up fixating on this one question in the middle of the first quantitative section. Spend 4 mins on that one I think. Did the same with the next one. Due to this I ended up missing 4 questions!

Needless to say that I couldnt cover it up in the next math section. Nor was I in the state of mind to by then cuz I kept on thinking about how stupid I was to do such a thing. Ended up getting a 154 when in the MGRE practice tests I got up to between 160 to 163.

So Im gonna give it again end of this month. This time I guess since Ive done the heavy lifting im gonna focus solely on doing as many questions as I can

any idea where I can get to do more probability and division/prime questions for extra practice. I already have the 5lb book and the guides for it

Hey Nadir,

Sorry the test didn't go as great as you wanted. I'm sure you'll get it the next time!

Nobody should need more material than our books + the 5 lb. book. Honestly, just run through those again. It's more useful than racking up a bunch of other books.

Good luck!
