You could also look at actual numbers, but you'd have to grasp ratios well enough to understand that we need to pick a number for the total adults that was divisible by both 16 and 11 (so that everything stays in integers). The first group that does this would be 16 * 11 = 176.
With 176 adults, we can simply divide up with our ratios:
80 women
96 men
(This is a ratio of 5 to 6 with a multiplier of 16)
77 left handers
99 right handers
(This is a ratio of 7 to 9, with a multiplier of 11)
Clearly, we have more women than left handers!
