1.5^3- Multiplying decimals by exponentials

by mattwendzina Fri Feb 19, 2016 4:53 am

Hi there,
I've been working through multiplying decimals by exponents. I understand powers of tens and numbers between 1 & 0- e.g. 0.04^3= 0.000064

However, I am stumped on how to figure out a decimal to a higher exponential without multiplying and moving the decimal, especially if it is cubed or larger.

For example, I saw the problem 1.5^3= 3.375

I can't figure out how to do this in my head/by hand and have had no luck finding an answer online anywhere. Could anyone help???

You have a calculator...so there's no need!
