Which MGMT book cocers series and progressions?

by tomslawsky Mon Feb 01, 2010 11:36 am

I am finalizing my quant prep and after evaluation of my weak areas, I conclude that I need more practice with series and progressions. Looking on the internet, I see books for the GMAT and GRE seem to ignore this topic. Also, I can find a lot of information on google, but much is way too simple and lacks GMAT convolution or is way too advanced for GMAT study. So, I am turning to MGMT, as I am happy with their Sentence correction (albeit an old version). So- Which book covers series, progressions (arithmatic and geometric). If MGMT doesn't cover these topics, specifically as tested on the GMAT, then where can I turn to? Thank you.

Series and sequences can be found in the Equations, Inequalities, and VICs book, primarily in the Advanced Functions chapter. That chapter also contains info on exponential growth, symmetry, optimization (linear and quadratic).

OK, thanks. I received the book on Monday and it made me realize that I still need to shore up ALL areas covered in the book. It should take me another 2 weeks or so. By the way, I am impressed with the book. It differs from other prep material (including the OG) in that rather than suggesting that you fetch numbers out of the air to produce examples and counter examples, the MGMT book gives me universally applicable formulas and principals to apply to problem types. This removes the frustration I've been having with the other prep materials, but at the same time highlights that I've some loose ends to tie up before I allow my confidence to spike.

Also, I must say this book is of the quality I expected with the numbers properties book, which I was disappointed in. It was the 2007 edition though and maybe the quality has improves with the 4th iteration?

Now, I am thinking that I must go out and get the Word translations book, although since Ive already paid for the 6 CAT exams with this book, I will be doing a library search for the word translations! Ugh, I should get there some day.

Glad you like the EIV book. The 2007 books are the 2nd edition, so yes, there's been significant improvement / additions since then, in particular in the advanced material (which we really made an effort to beef up for the 3rd and, currently, 4th editions).

You may want to go to a bookstore or library to browse through to see what you think.
