What is the best way to handle the Advanced hw assignments?

by maureenr Tue Jan 25, 2011 6:13 pm

I am using the Study Organizer and was wondering what is the best way to approach the homework. I've heard that I should tackle all of the General assignments first and then go back and try the Advanced assignments? Does this mean that I should try the Advanced assignments after the course is over or on the assigned day, only if I have time?

In general, you want to master the General homework before the Advanced for two reasons:
(1) within any one topic, obviously we need to master the General stuff in order to help us understand teh Advanced stuff
(2) the test rewards generalists over specialists - that is, it's better to have a fairly good level across all topics than to have some very good topics but some poor topics

As to when you get to the Advanced material, that depends upon your schedule and goals. You can do it within the initial week if you have the time. You can also save it for after the course. As a general rule, review the Advanced material for your strongest areas first, then work your way down (whether you're doing this during the initial week or after the course).

Further, it's not necessarily the case that you have to tackle ALL of the advanced material. If you are aiming for a 750+, you need to know everything. If you are aiming for a 700+, you should review all of the advanced material, but expect some things to be too hard (depending upon your particular strengths and weaknesses) and don't worry as much about those things. If you are aiming for a 650+, then you only need to review the advanced material for those areas that are your particular strengths (and don't worry too much if some of it is too hard). If you are aiming for a 600+, you don't need to worry much about the advanced material.
